Emerging England cricketer Dan Mousley showcased his brilliance in the field with a stunning catch, helping Birmingham Phoenix secure a nervy win over London Spirit in The Hundred 2024 at Lord's on Saturday, July 27.
The highlight of the match occurred during the fifth set of London Spirit's innings. Having already lost the crucial wickets of Michael Kyle-Pepper and Daniel Bell-Drummond, London Spirit faced further setbacks. Rossington flicked a good-length delivery from Abbott powerfully towards square leg, but Mousley had other plans.
As the ball soared through the air, Mousley quickly assessed the situation. He caught the ball near the square leg boundary while sprinting to his right. Despite losing his balance, Mousley managed to throw the ball back into play before diving valiantly to complete the catch cleanly within the playing area.

Reflecting on the game, the Birmingham Phoenix had a strong start with the ball. Tim Southee dismissed Daniel Bell-Drummond lbw with his first delivery, and Abbott dismantled the London Spirit batting line-up by removing Michael Pepper, Adam Rossington, Dan Lawrence, and Ryan Higgins in just eight balls. London Spirit stumbled to 30-5, but brief cameos from Liam Dawson and Andre Russell helped them reach 127-7 by the end of their innings.
Phoenix's chase also faced early hurdles. They slipped to 20-4, with Dan Worrall making early breakthroughs, including Moeen Ali's crucial wicket for a duck. Olly Stone ran out Liam Livingstone at the non-striker's end, but young talents Mousley (39 from 38) and Jacob Bethell (43 from 27) took control of the innings. Benny Howell's late cameo ensured Birmingham Phoenix chased down the target with just one ball to spare.
