Sri Lanka have fought back in the Galle Test with some incredible partnerships. Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal's dual fifties helped Sri Lanka get good amount of lead after day three in Galle.

Some gritty partnerships from Sri Lankan old cliches helped them get on top after day three in Galle.
New Zealand had Tom Blundell and Daryl Mitchell unbeaten to start their innings but Blundell departed earlier and then Mitchell too went back to the pavilion after scoring a fifty. Kiwis were in trouble but late order batter Glenn Phillips showed his maestro, batted with great courage with the tailenders and scored a brisk 49* off 48 deliveries. New Zealand were all-out for 340 on the board, with a lead of only 35.

In reply, William ORourke removed the opener Pathum Nissanka cheaply. But veteran campaigners Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal stitched a fantastic partnership between them, forging 147 runs stand to give Sri Lanka a glorious start to their second innings.

Azaj Patel had Karunaratne on 83, Chandimal too got out to ORourke. Angelo Mathews and captain Dhananjaya De Silva then had another gritty partnership of 59 runs to steer Sri Lanka to 237-4 with a lead of 202 runs.

Day 3 already done and still no favourites have been found. Mathews and De Silva are there and the hosts will be hoping to have over 400 on the board before being wrapped up. On the contrary, New Zealand will be hoping for something miracle and extract the moisture of the morning pitch to bundle Sri Lanka under 300.
