Sri Lanka Cricket released an official statement regarding the comments on the Indian secondary side to face Sri Lanka in the limited-overs series. Dhawan and Dravid in a training session

India have arrived in Sri Lanka to play three ODIs and three T20Is. The series will start with the ODI series on July 13th. After finishing the hard quarantine, Shikhar Dhawan and co have started their practice sessions. India have come up with a secondary side to the tour, as the Test side will continue to stay in England after the ICC World Test Championship Final. Meanwhile, former Sri Lankan cricketer Arjuna Ranatunga commented on playing with the Indian secondary side and mentioned the dignity of Sri Lankan Cricket should be ensured. The statement from Sri Lanka's World Cup winning captain emerged as a controversial one. “The Indian squad that came to Sri Lanka is not their best, it is a second-level team,” Ranatunga said. “Didn’t our sports minister or cricket administrators know this. Sri Lanka may have gone down, but as a cricketing nation we have an identity, we have dignity, we should not be sending our best to play an Indian B team.” Following these kinds of opinions, Sri Lanka Cricket made an official statement, clarifying their side on this claim. In the official press release, Sri Lanka Cricket mentioned that 14 of the touring Indian players have represented India in different formats and denied the fact of calling the touring squad as the second-string side. Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that despite claims by various parties as reported in the Media, the National White-Ball team of India currently touring Sri Lanka is a strong squad. Out of the 20-member India squad, 14 players have represented India across all formats or in some form, and not a ‘second-string team,’ as claimed. It also should be mentioned that this tour is taking place, whilst the National Test Team of India is touring England to play a 05 match test series, vs England. This is the latest norm in the cricketing world, especially the full ICC Member countries, as they maintain specialist squads and players for each format of the game. The aim of such arrangements is to be competitive in each format of the game by maintaining specialist players and squads. Apart from it, maintaining separate squads enable cricketing boards to fulfil their international commitments unhindered, such as the ICC Future Tours Program.
