Sports minister Harin Fernando has tabled the new Cricket Constitution in Parliament on Tuesday.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo, former opening batsman said, "I am pleased with this development. The credit should go to Prasanna Jayawardena, the former PC. When he was a member of the interim committee, he presented a concept paper on the proposed new constitution".
Incidentally, Prasanna Jayawardena is a Supreme Court judge.
Sidath Wettimuny, who played 23 Tests and 35 ODIs was heading the interim committee then.
"The ICC, then suggested that we study the New South African and Irish constitution, as they had been successfully implemented".
The sports minister has invited debate on this constitution.
Roshan Mahanama, Mahela Jaywardene and Kumar Sangakkara are the other renowned cricketers who have also prepared the documents and final touch given to the proposed Constitution.
"Let's hope Parliament passes a new constitution which can promote and nurture the game so that we can produce some world beaters!", Wettimuny signed off.
