India fast bowler Avesh Khan praised Shubman Gill as the bowlers' captain following his two-wicket performance on Wednesday (July 10) in Harare against Zimbabwe.
India set 183 for Zimbabwe to chase after they batted first. However, Avesh put the visitors ahead early in the second innings by taking two wickets in his opening two overs — both with the new ball — shocking the home team. With the two strikes, Avesh's series total reached six, which is tied for the most among all bowlers in the series.
When asked about his performance, Avesh said he was pleased with it and gave Shubman Gill credit for the wickets he took. “Happy with my performance, I always try to have an impact for the team. I have no preference on where to ball, I am ready to bowl at any phase. Shubman is a bowler’s captain, gives us the freedom to set our fields and backs our plans. He is responsible for probably getting me 1-2 wickets today,” Avesh Khan said after the match.
India captain Shubman Gill expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, saying they played well both with the bat and the ball. “Definitely very good, it was a crucial game for us, the way we started with the bat and ball was good. The wicket was a bit double-paced, the odd ball was gripping and it was not hit the length balls. We know that if there is something in the wicket, it will be more with the new ball, as the ball gets old it's a bit easier to score. Everyone is contributing and that's a good sign,” Gill said.
