Indian batter Shreyas Iyer is set to make an appearance for Mumbai in the prestigious Buchi Babu Invitational tournament, scheduled to take place across four venues in Tamil Nadu from August 15 to September 11. Iyer, who is eyeing a strong comeback to the Indian Test team, will play only one match in the tournament, facing Jammu & Kashmir from August 27 to 30 in Coimbatore.

The Buchi Babu Invitational tournament, one of India's oldest and most respected four-day competitions, will see participation from 12 teams this year, including top domestic sides like Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Hyderabad, and Bengal, alongside Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI and TNCA President's XI.

Iyer's inclusion in the Mumbai squad adds significant experience and quality to the team. He will be joining forces with India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is also playing in the tournament as part of his efforts to reclaim a spot in the Indian Test team. The duo will be under the leadership of Sarfaraz Khan, who has previously represented India in three Test matches.

The 29-year-old Iyer is currently recovering from a long-standing back issue that has seen him miss several key matches for India and Mumbai. However, he made his return to competitive cricket earlier this year during the Ranji Trophy semifinals and finals, and later in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Despite a modest performance in the ODIs, Iyer is eager to prove his fitness and form in the Buchi Babu tournament ahead of India's packed Test schedule.

India's upcoming Test season includes 10 matches, with series against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia. With limited spots available in the Test squad, Iyer will be keen to make a strong case for his inclusion through his performance in the Buchi Babu tournament.

The tournament, organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, will be held at various locations, including Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem, and Natham, providing a platform for players like Iyer to showcase their skills in the red-ball format.
