In the twilight of his illustrious 17-year international career, Shakib Al Hasan finds himself amidst a controversy that threatens to tarnish his legacy. The cricketing icon’s bowling action has been deemed suspect, following a complaint by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Until the issue is resolved, Shakib is barred from bowling, with rectifying his action being the immediate challenge.

Former Sri Lankan pacer Farveez Maharoof believes the task will be arduous for Shakib. Drawing from his experience as a teammate of Muttiah Muralitharan, who faced similar allegations of "chucking," Maharoof noted that overcoming such an accusation requires immense effort and resilience.

While speaking to BDCricTime during the Lanka T10 League, Maharoof shared his thoughts on Shakib’s predicament: “Correcting a flawed bowling action and making a comeback is extremely challenging. But Shakib, as far as I know, is a fighter. He is not someone to give up easily. He might attempt to fix his action, but it won’t be easy.”

Maharoof reflected on Muralitharan's ordeal when the legendary spinner’s action was questioned. “Although I was never accused of chucking in my career, I’ve seen how tough it was for Murali when his action was questioned. Shakib will face similar hurdles, but his fighting spirit could help him overcome this,” he added.

Despite acknowledging the difficulties ahead, Maharoof remains optimistic about Shakib’s ability to bounce back. “Shakib’s character is that of a fighter. His left-arm spin is among the best in T20 and T10 cricket, and he still has much to offer with the ball. If he can rectify his action, he will continue being the incredible all-rounder that he is.”
