As political instability grips Bangladesh, the popularity of cricket icon Shakib Al Hasan seems to be facing its own challenges. After being elected as a Member of Parliament for Magura-1 in the controversial 12th National Election, Shakib now finds himself entangled in the aftermath of the government's downfall. Many former MPs are under scrutiny, with some either fleeing the country or being detained by law enforcement.

Shakib, however, continues to represent Bangladesh in international cricket while staying abroad. With the Indian tour wrapped up, Bangladesh’s next assignment is a home series against South Africa. But with Shakib being named in legal cases, questions have arisen about whether he will participate in the upcoming series.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), however, remains optimistic. Shahriar Nafees, the BCB's Cricket Operations Chief, confirmed that the interim government has provided assurances that Shakib will not face any harassment as long as he isn't formally charged. Nafees mentioned that Shakib is expected to be part of the South Africa series unless injuries or selection issues arise.

"Honorable Chief Adviser, Legal Adviser, and Sports Adviser have given a clear message from the government that no one, including Shakib, will be unfairly harassed due to the ongoing cases. As long as there are no injury or selection concerns, I don’t see any reason why Shakib won’t play in the home series," said Nafees.

Nafees also revealed that discussions with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Legal Adviser Asif Nazrul, and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan reassured the BCB that Shakib has the full backing of the interim government. "The advisers have made their stance clear. I see no reason for any doubt regarding Shakib’s participation," he added.
