Saleque Sufi from Melbourne Cricket Ground Superstar Bangladesh cricket all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan bowled superbly controlled four overs at MCG last evening at MCG for his franchise Melbourne Renegades in a highly entertaining KFC Big Bash T20 match. T20 matches are exciting in nature and if a match goes down to wire and decided through a photo finish last ball run it becomes all the more entertaining. I took my son Shahriar Shuvro and his newly wed wife Rizwana Jasmin ( fortunately a cricket admirer) to MCG to enjoy the Melbourne derby at MCG and we were part of 37 cheering cricket fans enjoying the high voltage match. Shakib a late addition to Renegade Charge was sent to bat late in the order and could only play 5 balls when he had to go for every ball to boost his teams score .In that efforts he could connect the 5 th ball powerfully aiming to clear the field .But unfortunately the catch was taken from the boundary rope by Wright. He failed. But he excelled with his bowling and could get a wicket giving away only 23 runs in his four overs when all other bowlers were taken around the park by hard hitting Glen Maxwell and Kevin Peterson. Even watching cricket at MCG is definitely a dream come true for any cricket admirer. Watching a Bangladeshi Cricket perform admirably can definitely make a Bangladeshi family nostalgic. I could see through the eyes how much excited were my son and his wife to have a look at Shakib at MCG. They were almost at tears when Wright from across the boundary pushed the ball inside and caught a over boundary laden Shakib strike fast bowler JS Hastings . Then they were jumping up and down and cheering at full throat when with a smart arm ball he cleaned Melbourne Star Captain CL White on the last ball of his first over. Melbourne Star has few of the leading cricketers of the world and they are among the top in KFC Big Bash 2014-15 tournament .Melbourne Renegades unfortunately are not doing well this year .Shakib for reasons well known could not start the season earlier .His late addition has already made some impacts .He played an important role as effective in his first match for his team against Hobart Hurricane taking wickets and scoring runs .As such similar contribution was expected from his yesterday. Melbourne star crushed Shakib’s team in earlier match when Shakib was not available. Yesterday Melbourne Renegade won the toss and electing to bat appeared dynamic right from the word go. Mathhew Wade the Australian international was playing with controlled aggression and others around him like captain Aron Flinch , Callom Ferguson ,Ben Stokes made some contributions .Shakib was penned to bat at number four . But for keeping left hand right hand combinations at critical stage of the game he had to be dropped down till Mathew Wade got out after scoring a brilliant 71 in 40 deliveries with two fours and 4 sixes . When Shakib arrived after on the 18 th over only sixteen balls were left in the match .He had no time to watch and had to get desperate for runs. He attempted pulling the fast bowler Hastings strongly over and across the square leg fence .MCG is a huge ground and he could not clear and got caught by Wright running close to the fence .In fact he tipped in back inside from outside the rope to grab from inside .Shakib could score only 1 which like others disappointed us .His team could score 153 /6 in allotted overs which appeared at least 20 short to us . Melbourne star in response started shakily losing both their openers Wright and White in the first two overs for 14 on board. Shakib was given responsibility of bowling the second over and was looking good before he was heaved over long on by White for a massive six. Undaunted Shakib responded with a lethal arm delivery to knock back Whites furniture striking the early blow. Until recently the main stay of English batting at all forms of the game and a leading batsman Kevin Pieterson was joined by Australian blaster Glen Maxwell. The two staring careful settled to their characteristic rhyme. A very fluent 120 runs 3rd wicket partnership was letting Melbourne star cruise towards the victory. When match fate was almost written suddenly Leggie Fawad Ahmed changed the course of the match clean bowling Maxwell for 66. Melbourne star stuttered .They lost four more wickets in quick succession as panic set in. Shakib bowled with superb control even when Maxwell and Pieterson were proceeding with all guns blazing .Both respected his line and length and played him very carefully. Shakib conceded the least runs in his 4 overs while bowlers like Peter Siddle. Stokes and Pattinson suffered. The match which looked like getting over a bit early drifted to the last over with Melbourne star still needing 6 runs to win. They lost two more wickets on the fourth and fifth ball still needing a run on the last ball for win. There were nail biting excitement in the huge MCG with crowd creating Mexican waves. Tiff Triffit somehow connected the last delivery of Remington and desperately went for the winning run but a fumble by him catching the throw got a photo finish escape of the Melbourne star otherwise the match was tied. MCG witnessed a dramatic finish of the exciting derby. Our Shakib could make justice to his reputation.
