Umran Malik was expected to raise his bar and operate at the fullest for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League. However, as it turned out, he failed to function properly in the tournament and it was indeed a massive disappointment from the fans' perspective.

He played only eight games for SRH this season wherein he took just five wickets at an expensive economy of 10.85, which is really low considering a player of that stature.

The right-arm fast bowler was far from being impressive as he didn't hit the deck hard as he would have liked to. He wasn't getting results for his work-rate and perhaps he should have done a bit better for the SRH franchise. However, that wasn't meant to be.

Virender Sehwag criticizes Umran Malik after poor IPL campaign

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag launched a scathing attack on Umran Malik after a dismal IPL campaign. Umran Malik's bowling took a hit after he conceded 31 runs off three overs against Mumbai Indians in the last game of the league stage.

Sehwag was surprised to see Umran Malik failing to pick up the lessons from Dale Steyn with whom he worked for some time now. While speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag reflected on SRH's terrible bowling performance where he spoke about Umran Malik as well.

"You can only win by dismissing those batters. (Markram had kept) Fine leg, square leg, and deep midwicket, and asked the bowler to bowl a back-of-the-length delivery. But the batters didn't make a mistake. SRH took the chance, but the batters smashed them all around the park," Sehwag added.

"If it were a South African pacer, I could've understood that he wouldn't want to bowl too full. But Umran Malik... the problem is that he keeps shuffling his length. He doesn't have the experience yet. He might have worked a lot with Dale Steyn, but he hasn't really got the idea of his length. Despite working with Steyn for so long and learning under him, he's doing the same mistakes that he did last year," Sehwag brutally slammed Umran Malik.

"The bowlers weren't pretty good. The captain could've asked them to keep one of long-on and long-off. The thing was, you failed to stop the flow of runs altogether," Sehwag further added.
