After achieving great success in football, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has turned its attention to other sports. To this end, the country's leaders are considering creating the highest-paid cricket league in the world.

Since T20 and other short-format cricket leagues are seen as the future of the sport, reports in foreign media claim that Saudi officials have approached a small number of Indian Premier League (IPL) club owners.

Since Indian players are banned from playing in other leagues, the Arab nation reached out to IPL in an unusual attempt to have them participate in the league. New Muslim hopes require backing from cricket's highest authority. There are around 36 million people in the country, but because it is not a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), any possible domestic tournament would not be recognised as an official List A competition, and players' performances there would not be included in their domestic T20 statistics.

Saudi Arabia's Cricket Federation chairman, Prince Saud bin Mishal Al-Saud, previously told a newspaper that the organisation is working to create a long-term sector for both natives and foreigners in the Kingdom.

Despite the speculation, the specifics of the meeting remained under wraps. According to reports, the top investors in the Kingdom are eager to put their money into the exciting sport of cricket, which has millions of admirers all over the world.

Under Vision 2030, the Saudi government recognises the need of expanding its economy into other fields, such as sports and entertainment. Kingdom has dabbled in a number of different sports, including Formula One, Golf, and Boxing.
