In the latest development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Team India's squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa. Currently, India are playing the third and final Test against Proteas at Cape Town.
Navdeep Saini comes in back-up for Mohammed Siraj in the ODI series.After that, India will stay back there to play the ODI series. The first of the three-match ODI series starts on January 19 at Boland Park, Paarl. The second game will take place at the same venue on January 21 whereas the third and final ODI will take place at Newlands, Cape Town on January 23.
Meanwhile, Jayant Yadav and Navdeep Saini have been added to India's squad for the ODI series against South Africa. The duo's addition to the squad came after Washington Sundar contracted the virus infection last week.
The Tamil Nadu all-rounder, Washington Sundar tested positive for COVID-19 at the NCA in Bengaluru. He has been isolated from the rest of the other white-ball specialists. Although he is on the verge of completing his isolation, he has to submit a negative report in order to fly to South Africa.
On the other hand, other white-ball players have submitted negative reports and are good to go. Saini comes into the squad as a backup option for injured Mohammed Siraj. It is to be noted that Siraj stretched a hamstring in the second Test. He was also ruled out of the third Test at Cape Town.
Since Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the ODI series, KL Rahul will lead the team. Jasprit Bumrah has been handed the vice-captaincy duties. The last time India toured South Africa, they scripted a historic ODI series win. Kohli and Co won the series by 5-1.
