South Africa have thrashed Ireland by 139 runs on Wednesday (October 2) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Wicket-keeper batter Ryan Rickelton's incredible 91 off 102 deliveries, along with Tristan Stubbs' quick-fire 79 off 86 deliveries helped South Africa post 271 on the board. In reply, Lizaad Williams four wicket-haul assisted the Proteas thump Ireland to go 1-0 in the series.
Ryan Rickelton's brilliant 91 helped South Africa get 271 on the board, which their bowlers managed to defend.
Choosing to bat first, South Africa started off to a good start before Tony de Zorzi got out to Mark Adair on 12 off 14 balls. Proteas then lost two more quick wickets and were stuttering on 39-3. And then, opening Wicket-keeper batter Ryan Rickelton and young prodigy Tristan Stubbs stitched an outstanding 152 off only 155 deliveries to help South Africa get out of trouble.
And then Mark Adair and Craig Young then scripted a comeback to trigger the collapse. However, at the backend of the innings, Bjorn Fortuin smashed a quick-fire 28 off 34 balls to help South Africa 271 runs on the board.
In reply, Lizaad Williams cleaned up the top order of Ireland as he removed Andrew Balbarnie, Curtis Campher and Harry Tector.
Wiaan Mulder too joined the party and scaled twice, with Ottneil Baartman had another as Ireland were kept losing wickets at regular basis as they were all-out for 132 runs and lost the first ODI by 139 runs.
