Mahmudullah Riyad has been out of Bangladesh's T20 squad since the 2022 T20 World Cup. Although he played in the 2023 ODI World Cup, he was out of the team for a long time before that. However, Riyad is brilliant with the bat in this year's BPL. He played a great innings of 51 runs off 24 balls in the last match. Many times in the last ODI World Cup, Riyad took control of Bangladesh with great batting at the moment of danger. After Riyad's brilliant performance in the BPL, naturally, there is a demand to take Riyad to the T20 World Cup team.

BCB director and Dhaka coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon, who is with Durdanto Dhaka in BPL, is positive about Riyad's inclusion in the World Cup team. Talking to the media in Sylhet, Sujon said, “I always say that Mahmudullah is a cricketer who can play in all three formats. It is very difficult for me that Mahmudullah does not play Tests, he has retired. I cannot accept this at all. Because I think he still has the ability to play Tests. Such an experienced cricketer needs in Tests. It may be due to his reasons, age may also be a factor. Riyad's experience or rhythm. I think there is no other player to challenge him in his position. Of course, Riyad can be an autochoice in the T20 World Cup team. That's the way to think.”
