Sri Lanka have beaten New Zealand by 63 runs on Monday (September 23) in Galle. Prabath Jayasuriya's deadly fifer, along with Ramesh Mendis' three wicket-haul helped Sri Lanka have a convincing win to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series.
Prabath Jayasuriya's deadly fifer defied Rachin Ravindra's heroics.
New Zealand needed 68 runs with 2 wickets in hands in the last day and their key batter was Rachin Ravindra, who was batting with great courage and fluently. He was standing on 91* and Kiwis had little dream on Ravindra to pull of the heist.
However, Ravindra couldn’t even score more than 1 run and departed on 92 to Prabath Jayasuriya, who changed the course of the match and the last wicket was a mere formality, which was very easy to remove and Sri Lanka have 63 runs victory.
Kiwi batters got starts, especially the likes of Tom Latham, Kane Williamson and Tom Blundell but all of them departed inside 30 and couldn’t make any longer innings to assist Rachin Ravindra.
Prabath Jayasuriya was the hero behind Sri Lanka's magnificent victory, claiming four wickets in the first innings and then had a fantastic fifer to hand Sri Lanka a convincing 63-run victory over the Kiwis.
The second and last Test match commences from Thursday (26th September) at the same venue, Galle.
