Axar Rajeshbhai Patel, also Akshar Patel (born January 20, 1990) is an Indian international cricketer who plays for Gujarat in domestic cricket and for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He is an all-rounder who plays as a left-handed batsman and slow orthodox bowler with his left arm.

He made his ODI debut on June 15, 2014 against Bangladesh. He was selected on India's 15-man roster for the 2015 World Cricket Championships in Australia and New Zealand. He made his Test debut for India on February 13, 2021 against England, where he finished 7 wickets. He became the ninth bowler for India to take a five-wicket-hol on his debut in test cricket Match award.On 21 November 2021 against New Zealand he got his best T20I career numbers - 3/9 (3) and was awarded Man of the Match honors.
Domestic Career
In his second top-flight game against Delhi in November 2013, Patel caught 6 for 55 in the first innings. This was his first five-wicket draw.
Patel played just one top-flight game in his debut season for Gujarat but had a more successful performance in 2013. Used primarily as a bowling all-rounder, the left-arm spinner earned his first IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2013 IPL. He was on the bench all season.
With seven wickets including a four-for in the semifinals against UAE, he was a key contributor to India U23's title win at the 2013 ACC Emerging Teams Cup. He was one of the most consistent players for Gujarat at the 2013/14 Ranji Trophy and finished the season with 369 runs at an average of 46.12 and 29 wickets at 23.58. In early 2014 he was named BCCI Under-19 Cricket Player of the Year for the 2012–13 season.
In August 2019, he was named to the India Red squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy. In October 2019 he was named to India C's squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.
IPL Career
Axar Patel IPL Patel was signed by IPL franchise Mumbai Indians in 2013 but didn't get a chance to play until he was released. He was then picked up by Kings XI Punjab in 2014 and had an impressive 17-wicket season. He was retained by the Kings XI Punjab for the 2015 IPL season. Batting further down the line, he scored 206 runs for the Kings XI Punjab in 2015, in addition to 13 wickets. On 1 May 2016, during a game against the Gujarat Lions, he conceded four wickets in five balls including the first (and only) hat trick of the 2016 IPL season to set the stage for Kings XI Punjab's 23-round win against Tablecloths Gujarat Lions in Rajkot. He was retained by Kings XI Punjab for the 2018 season.
Axar Patel became the 9th Indian player to score a five-wicket pull in the Test debut and only the second left-arm spinner after Dilip Doshi to score a five in his debut Test.
In December 2018, he was signed by the Delhi Capitals in the 2019 Indian Premier League player auction.

International Career
After an excellent performance at the 2014 IPL, Patel was rewarded with a spot in India's ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour and made his ODI debut in the first game of the series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, winning 1/59 runs. He was part of India's 15-man squad for the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
He made his Twenty20 International debut for India on July 17, 2015 against Zimbabwe. He was named as a substitute for India's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
In January 2021, Patel was called up to India's Test squad for his series against England. He made his Test debut against England on 13 February 2021 and made his comeback to international cricket after a hiatus of almost three years. His first international test wicket was by Joe Root. In the same match, he won five wickets in England's second innings, becoming the ninth Indian bowler to do so on his debut. In the 3 games he played in his debut streak, he took 27 wickets with an average of 10.59, becoming the second-highest wicket taker of the streak. Later in the year he scored his first Test of half a century against New Zealand.
In September 2021, Patel was named to India's squad for the 2021 ICC T20 Men's World Championship. However, on October 13, 2021, he was replaced by Shardul Thakur in the India squad.
In November 2021, Patel was named to India's squad for the 2021 New Zealand tour of India.
