Taufeeq Umar (Punjabi: توفیق عمر, born June 20, 1981) is a retired Pakistani cricketer who played for the Pakistani national cricket team between 2001 and 2014. Season 05. On May 23, 2020, he tested positive for COVID-19 and insisted not to develop cautious symptoms. He successfully recovered from the virus in June 2020.
International career
Unusually for a Pakistani player, Umar has played more Tests than ODIs as he did not get a lengthy run in the ODI side until 2003 when he played eight ODIs in a row. However, he only missed two of 24 Tests played between August 2001 and April 2004, and after 17 tests his batting average had reached 48.03 after making four scores over 50 in the two series of tests with South Africa.
He has an excellent temperament and remains unique among the Pakistani openers for his ability to focus and build innings over long periods of time. With exquisite drives on either side of the wicket, an impressive cut-and-pull shot in the armory, and the natural gift of timing, it seemed like the perfect answer to Pakistan's opening problem, particularly against a full-strength South African attack in South Africa (2003 ). A loss of form against India (2004) meant that Taufeeq lost his place in the team and confidence in the clout was lost.
He was appointed to the Pakistani team in 2010 for the South Africa Series. He made his comeback against South Africa with some good results. He scored a century against the West Indies and then a brilliant double hundred against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates. As a prelude, he is again an integral part of the test squad. In 2012 he continued to play for Pakistan until Sri Lanka. After the series, he was dropped from the squad until his later comeback for a single friendly against New Zealand in 2014. He only scored 16 and 4 in the two innings and dropped out of the squad.
Domestic career
He stayed in the minds of Pakistani voters, playing for Pakistan against a Touring England XI in 2005-06 and continuing to play for Lahore Ravi and Habib Bank Limited in Pakistani national competitions. It remains to be seen if he can regain his solid technique and return to Test cricket as the impressive prelude he should be.
This is made worse by the fact that he joined the rebel Indian Cricket League and represented the Lahore Badshahs. Taufeeq spent a summer in the UK playing Professional League cricket for Lancaster Cricket Club in the Northern League.
