Sayed Shirzad (born October 1, 1994) is an Afghan cricketer. Shirzad is a left-handed batsman who bowls with his left arm at medium speed.
Domestic career
Shirzad represented the Afghan U19s in the 2011 U19 World Cup qualifiers in Ireland. He made his Twenty20 debut for the Afghan Cheetahs in the Faysal Bank Twenty-20 Cup against Rawalpindi Rams. He didn't have to hit in that match while bowling two overs with no wicket with the ball.
On July 11, 2018, he made his A List debut for Boost Region at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament 2018. He was the leading wicket taker for Boost Region during the tournament with twelve layoffs in six games.
T20 franchise career
In September 2018, he was named to the Kandahar squad for the first edition of the Afghanistan Premier League tournament. He was the leading wicket taker for the Kandahar Knights in the tournament, with sixteen layoffs in eight games.
International career
On November 29, 2015, he made his debut at Twenty20 International for Afghanistan against Oman.
He was named to the Afghan squad for the first friendly against India in May 2018, but was not selected for the game.
In July 2018, he was called up to Afghanistan's One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Ireland, but did not play. In September 2018 he was appointed to the Afghan ODI squad for the 2018 Asian Cup, but did not play.
In February 2019, he was named to Afghanistan's One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Ireland in India. On March 2, 2019, he made his ODI debut for Afghanistan against Ireland. After completing the ODI series, he was included in the Afghan test squad for the one-off game against Ireland, but did not play.
On June 27, 2019, Sayed was added to Afghanistan's squad for the 2019 World Cricket Championship, replacing Aftab Alam, who was banned from the tournament due to "exceptional circumstances". In August 2019 he was appointed to the Afghan test squad for the one-off game against Bangladesh, but did not play. In February 2021, he was appointed to Afghanistan's test team for their series against Zimbabwe. He made his testing debut for Afghanistan on March 10, 2021 against Zimbabwe.
