England have bossed the day one of third Test. English stand-in captain Ollie Pope has smacked a blitz hundred, scoring 103 off 103 balls to propel England to 221-3 after only 44.1 overs. This was an early day due to bad light and extreme overcast conditions.
Being asked to bat first, batting seemed to be challenging under the overcast conditions but Ben Duckett made things cakewalk. Some credit goes to Sri Lanka's awful bowling as well. Duckett blasted 86 off only 79 deliveries to give a flying start.
Ollie Pope joined the party and the stand in captain was under immense pressure as he was having a severe lean patch with the bat. But he answered his critics with a masterclass hundred to propel England to the safe shores.
Sri Lankan bowlers were awful throughout the day, couldn’t exploit the conditions and leaked runs at regular basis. Lahiru Kumara picked up two wickets, despite being very expensive, going 6.7 per over. While Milan Rathnayake had one sole wicket of Ben Duckett.
England are currently on 221-3, with Ollie Pope is mouth watering on 103* and Harry Brook just came at the crease. They'll be eyeing to get over 400 on the board and take the game away from Sri Lanka.
