Sri Lanka thrashed West Indies by 73 runs on Tuesday (October 15) in Dambulla. Pathum Nissanka's gutsy 54 off 49 deliveries helped Sri Lanka get 162 runs on the board. In reply, Dunith Wellalage's exceptional three wicket-haul and dual wickets from Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga handed Lankans a thumping 73 runs victory.
Sri Lanka's spinners ran riot through the West Indies batters to level up the series.
Opting to bat first, openers Pathum Nissanka and wicketkeeper batter Kamindu Mendis stitched a fantastic 77 runs stand before Shamar Springer removed Mendis after his 26 off 25 balls. Kusal Perera then smashed a quick-fire 24 off only 16 deliveries.
However, Pathum Nissanka kept ticking the scoreboard and steered the ship of Sri Lanka. Nissanka's gritty 54 off 49 balls helped the hosts post 162 on the board.
In reply, West Indies fell in trouble from the very beginning of the innings. Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana ran riot with the new ball and West Indies were in deep trouble as the visitors lost 4 wickets inside the powerplay.
Captain Rovman Powell scored 20 off 17 balls but couldn't prolong the innings. West Indies were all-out for 89 runs and lost the game by 73 runs.
With the victory, Sri Lanka have now levelled up the series with 1-1 and one game to go.
