New Zealand beat India by a massive 113 runs to script history in Pune. This is Kiwis first away Test series victory in the WTC history. This is also India's first Test series defeat at home since 2012. Mitchell Santner is the hero behind this historic victory as he claimed total 13 wickets in the Test match.
New Zealand were bundled inside an hour, but they managed to get 358 run-lead. In reply of 359, India started off to a flier as Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 34 runs inside 5.4 overs before Mitchell Santner removed the captain. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal then stitched up a fantastic partnership of 62 runs before Santner once again broke the partnership by removing Gill on 23.
Jaiswal, however, brought up a fine fifty and made a swashbuckling 77 off only 65 runs before Jaiswal departed him. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant had an awkward mix up, which costed Rishabh's precious wicket, while Kohli too couldn’t stay long and fell to Santner. India were in all sorts of trouble, succumbing on 147-5.
However, India's old cliche Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja stitched a partnership and helped them get over 200 but which wasn’t sufficient as Santner and Phillips dismissed both of them to hand New Zealand a thumping 113-run victory.
India won 18 consecutive home series before this defeat, this is their first home Test series victory since 2012.
