South Africa beat Pakistan by 11 runs in the first T20I on Tuesday (December 10) in Durban. A sensational 82 off 40 deliveries from Protea ace batter David Miller helped the hosts get to a competitive 183 on the board. In reply, a sedate knock from Pakistan captain, Mohammad Rizwan put the visitors down and ultimately they were 11 runs short from the target.
Opting to bat first, South Africa fell into deep trouble as Shaheen Afridi knocked over Russie Van Dussen in the very first delivery of the innings. Abrar Ahmed then had Reeza Hendricks and Breetzke as South Africa fell quick three wickets.
Wickets kept tumbling at other end but David Miller stood tall as he kept smashing boundaries at regular basis. However, he found hands in all-rounder George Linde, who gave proper support to the southpaw.
Miller scored a whirlwind 82 off 40 deliveries, which included 8 massive sixes and 4 boundaries. While Linde scored a quick-fire cameo of 48 off 24 balls as South Africa finished their innings on 183.
In reply, Babar Azam fell to the young pace sensation Kwena Maphaka for a four-ball duck. Saim Ayub came in and smashed some boundaries to uplift Pakistan after the loss of Babar. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan stood tall and ended up playing an ordinary knock as he kept consuming balls without scoring at the rate they needed.
Wickets were tumbling at other ends, while he too couldn't hit boundaries until reaching to his fifty. However, he kept Pakistan alive after scoring 24 off the 17th over, but a superb triple wicket over from Linde killed the game and sealed the match for South Africa as the hosts won the opening T20I by 11 runs.
