A fabulous all round performance from skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz guided Bangladesh under – 19 team to secure third place in the ICC Under – 19 World Cup 2016. Miraz, leading from the front, made a solid stand to ensure the 3-wicket victory against Sri Lanka at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah today.   Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka Under – 19 team won the toss and decided to bat first. A well balanced bowling attack led by the skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who himself was the highest wicket taker of the match, bound Sri Lankan batting line up in quite a sturdy way. Miraz manufactured a fantabulous figure of 3 for 28 in his 10 overs, and well guided his bowlers to restrict the Lankans in a modest score of 214. Sri Lanka after batting first made a 60 run opening partnership which was dislodged by Miraz in the 12th over of their innings. Miraz claimed 3 successive wickets in his first spell, taking his 2nd at the 14th over and 3rd wicket at the 18th over of Lankan innings. After losing all the top order batsmen in a row, Sri Lanka could not able to recover in rest of their innings and scored runs in a slow over rate. Mohammad Saifuddin and Abdul Halim also picked up 2 wickets each in their 8 and 5.5 over spell respectively meanwhile Mehedi Hasan Rana and Saleh Ahmed Shawon took 1 wicket each. Middle order batsman Charith Asalanka held his innings for long, scored 76 runs playing 99 balls, became the highest scorer of the Sri Lankan innings. Having dismissed Sri Lanka for 214, Bangladesh received the first blow in the opening over of their innings, Zakir Hasan was straight bowled by Fernando without scoring but Jaker Ali and Joyraz Sheik tackled the initial disaster and added 48 runs in the second wicket partnership. Bangladesh was progressing steadily on course of an 88-run partnership between Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Nazmul Hossain Shanto - they facilitated the way of chasing through taking singles and doubles as Lankan bowlers tied them up for 105 balls without picking up a boundary. But Sri Lanka bounced back in the game at the 36th over of the match, when Bangladesh lost 2 quick wickets; Mehedi Hasan Miraz was unfortunate to be the victim of a run out after completing his fourth consecutive half century in the tournament. His 53 run came off 66 balls. Nazmul Hossain Shanto also departed in the same fashion two overs later, became run out scoring 40 off 57 balls. The partnership between Shafiul Hayet and Mosabbek Hossain slowly added 28 runs before both of them losing their wickets on the verge of the victory target. Jaker Ali, who retired hurt early in the innings after scoring 31 runs, came back in the crease to score crucial runs to guide the team towards the victory target. Bangladesh needed four runs in the final over to seal the victory and the chase got tougher when the first 2 ball went without scoring.
