Soumya Sarkar, once favored by head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, has often been given opportunities to cement his place in the Bangladesh T20 squad. Despite the repeated trust placed in him, Soumya has struggled to deliver consistent performances. This time, however, he finds himself omitted from the squad for the T20 series against India, making way for a promising young talent.

Parvez Hossain Emon, a rising star among Bangladesh’s young cricketers, is getting a chance to prove his worth. Emon, though having had a brief stint in the national team, didn’t receive enough opportunities, according to some analysts. Now, with a renewed focus on developing future prospects, the selectors are giving him the platform to sharpen his skills and stake a claim for a regular spot in the side.

The selection panel is optimistic about Emon's potential, and chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu explained that age and future potential were key factors in the decision to select the young opener over Soumya. "We have Litton [Das], we have Tamim [Tanzid Hasan]. But we want to try Emon in Soumya’s place. We observed him during the World Cup training sessions and were impressed. He also performed well in the Tigers camp. We believe it's the right time to bring him into the squad as part of our long-term plans," Lipu said.

While youth is at the forefront of Bangladesh’s squad, experience has not been entirely sidelined. Mahmudullah Riyad, who has had his ups and downs, has been recalled after the team’s disappointing World Cup campaign. Lipu noted the importance of experience in balancing the squad: "We aren’t ignoring experience. Riyad is in the team, and if needed, he can step up to steady the ship. We still trust him, and our captain has options for a balanced combination."

With a blend of youth and experience, the Bangladesh team is looking to find the right mix as they prepare for the India series, with a clear eye on the future.
