A significant change of captaincy has occurred in the West Indies Cricket. Kraigg Brathwaite has stepped down from his Test captaincy role, while Shai Hope has been named as the new T20I captain as well.

Kraigg Brathwaite has stepped down from Test captaincy. Roman Powell has called his time from T20I captaincy and Shai Hope has been appointed as the new T20I captain of West Indies. Kraigg Brathwaite has announced his decision before the Australia Test series. During Kraigg's tenure, beginning in March 2021, was marked by historic victories, including a first Test victory in Australia for 27 years (Gabba 2024) on the back of Shamar Joseph heroics, a series-levelling win in Pakistan (first in 34 years), a home series win against England (2022), and a series victory over Bangladesh (2021). Now Brathwaite will solely focus on his batting. 

While West Indies T20I skipper Rovman Powell has stepped down as the captain and Shai Hope has been appointed as the new captain, who was already leading the Caribbeans in the ODI's.

Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, praised Brathwaite’s leadership and acknowledged Powell’s professionalism, stating he “ought to feel dignified by his contributions.”

Head Coach Daren Sammy has endorsed Hope’s appointment, citing his success in ODI's and his “analytical precision” and “calm and composed demeanor.”

West Indies are yet to announce their skipper for Test side. They've a three-match home Test series against the Aussies.
