India’s up to the minute pace sensation Kamlesh Nagarkoti revealed how nerves poised to wreck him during the IPL auction, 2018 telling he sat in the washroom watching three franchises bidding him at the ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru. The 18 year old Kamlesh born in Barmer said, "Friends kept calling me. I didn't pick up the phone. I didn't watch my bidding.” Andar se thoda nervous tha main (I was a little nervous from within). When my room partner Pankaj Yadav turned on the live stream, I couldn't take it, so I went and sat inside the washroom even as my bidding kept going on." he said. "I spoke a little to my coach, but couldn't do so for long because people were after him for interviews. “I finally slept but not properly; was up by 4am again,” the youngster said. Nagarkoti, roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 3.20 crore, stole the headlines during the ongoing Under-19 World Cup where he has been constantly bowling at a speed beyond 140 Kmph. Nagarkoti said the first thing he did was to call his parents who already received multiple calls from media channels for interviews. “TV channels were home to interview them, so I couldn’t talk for long, but they were happy,” Nagarkoti said. “Later, someone tagged them being interviewed on the social media. They were very happy. I’d only ever watched one IPL match at the stadium before this. To be playing now is a great feeling. I was watching Chris Lynn batting in the BBL on TV. Now I’ll get a chance to bowl to him in the nets. It’s quite unbelievable,” the youngster foamed. Laccham Singh Nagarkoti, the father of Kamlesh Nagarkoti said to Cricketnext that he was extremely proud of his son. “Main toh bas chahta hun vo aage bade aur senior team ke liye bhi khele,” the excited father said with teary eyes. In an earlier occasion, Nagarkoti was invited for trials by Mumbai Indians but since he was 17 and hadn’t played in Ranji Trophy, he couldn’t sign a contract. “My main aim is to see him play in the senior Indian team, if he gets selected for IPL then well and good but even if he isn’t selected, it’s alright,” Nagarkoti Sr had said before the IPL auction. This year’s IPL auction saw a number of surprise moves from franchises. While the marquee listed West Indian giant Chris Gayle left unsold and then made a place in a last minute call in the second and last day of auction, the 17 year old Sandeep became the first Nepalese cricketer to get an IPL contract.
