Sri Lanka are in the driver's seat after day 1 in Galle Test. Kamindu Mendis' incredible century, along with Wicket-keeper batter Kusal Mendis' fluent fifty helped Sri Lanka get 302 on the board, losing 7 wickets. While William ORourke was the standout bowler for the Kiwis with his three wicket-haul.
Kamindu Mendis is continuing his purple patch with yet another solid hundred.
Choosing to bat first, Sri Lanka didn’t have a great way to start their innings. William ORourke removed Dimuth Karunaratne earlier on. However, Pathum Nissanka and Dinesh Chandimal stitched a little partnership before ORourke knocked over Pathum Nissanka. Captain Tim Southee then had Chandimal and Sri Lanka were stuttering after losing the top three.
However, Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis stitched a solid partnership. Mathews although got out on 30's but Kamindu stood tall and found hands in Kusal Mendis.
Kusal brought up a nice fifty, while Kamindu made a fabulous hundred and scored a splendid 114 off 173 deliveries to help Sri Lanka score 302-7 on the board.
William ORourke was the pick of the bowlers as he had three wickets to his name, while Glenn Phillips had two wickets.
Sri Lanka would like to have some 30-40 runs under their belt with their lower order. While New Zealand will be eyeing to wrap up the Lankans inside 310 to give them a big chance in this Test match.
