The contract that Jonathan Trott, a former batter for England, has as head coach of the Afghanistan men's cricket team has been extended for an additional year. This comes after Trott's excellent tenure with the Afghanistan side. However, the ACB has decided to maintain him for the year 2024 as well, despite the fact that his 18-month term came to a conclusion in 2023.

During his term of 18 months, Afghanistan has achieved new heights, including becoming victorious in the One-Day International World Cup with four victories, which is their best-ever performance in the event.

Afghanistan also put up a remarkable effort in the Asia Cup 2022, which resulted in them winning the first two matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Trott was the coach of Afghanistan in this tournament. Additionally, they won their very first Twenty20 International bilateral series against Pakistan, as well as their very first One-Day International series against Bangladesh.

"Mr. Jonathon Trott expressed his pleasure on the extension of his contract and stated that he is looking forward to spending more time with the squad and building on performances of the recently held ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023," the ACB said in a media release.

Now in the United Arab Emirates, the Afghanistan squad is competing against the host side in a Twenty20 International series that will consist of three matches. This will be followed by an impending journey to India, where they will compete against the Indians in a Twenty20 International series consisting of three matches, beginning on January 11 and ending on January 17.
