The Melbourne Stars have signed left arm pacer Joel Paris from Western Australia to bolster their bowling stocks after a disappointing BBL season last season.
West Australian quick Joel Paris has followed Australian Test star Scott Boland from Hobart to Melbourne to add another boost to the stars' speed attack in KFC BBL|13.
Left pacer Joel Paris has signed for the upcoming edition of Big Bash League in favor of the Melbourne Stars. The West Australian pacer has represented the Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes in the past and Melbourne Stars will be his third team in the competition. He had a stellar season in the last edition of the Sheffield Shield and as such the Stars were keen to bring him on board, especially after a very disappointing season last time out.
In 2021 he joined the Hobart Hurricanes to play more T20 cricket but only managed 12 games in two seasons. His best performance came in swinging conditions at the Gabba last season when he went 2 for 15 in four overs, including 13 dot balls.
Meanwhile, his T20 record isn't quite up to par and that remains a cause for concern. In the last 10 years, Paris has only played 37 games in the BBL, as he has not had any significant impact. However, with the return of Trent Boult and Luke Wood unconfirmed, the stars were looking to strengthen their pace department and so signed Paris for the upcoming season.
"We realized we needed more left-backs in our team who can swing the ball so it's fantastic for the team to sign someone with Joel's experience. He has been part of a very successful system in Perth for a number of years and knows what success looks like and we hope he can emulate that during his time with the Stars," Blair Crouch, general manager of the Stars, was quoted.
Meanwhile, the stars have also signed Scott Boland for the coming season. The Aussie red ball specialist has had a sensational year in international cricket and hopes to continue like that in the BBL. On the other hand, Nathan Coulter Nile is expected to extend his Stars contract by a year.
