Ireland have thumped South Africa in the third and final ODI by 69 runs to have a consolation victory on Monday (October 6) in Abu Dhabi. Captain Paul Stirling's brilliant 88 off 92 deliveries, with Harry Tector's 60 off only 48 deliveries helped Ireland post a competitive 284 on the board. In reply, Graham Hume and Craig Young's three wickets each helped Ireland bundle proteas to 215 to have a brilliant 69 runs victory.

Opting to bat first, Ireland had a solid way to start their innings. The opening stand added 101 runs before Andrew Balbirnie's fall to Williams on his 45 off 73 balls. And then Curtis Campher came out at No. 3 and stitched another handy partnership with skipper Stirling. This time the duo forged a quick-fire 58 run stand before Ottneil Baartman knocked over Campher [34 off 36].

Ottneil Baartman then sent Stirling's stumps for a walk after his sensational 88 off only 92 deliveries. However, Stirling's departure didn't bring collapse to the Ireland's innings as Harry Tector took the onus on his shoulders and blasted a brisk 60 off 48 balls to uplift Ireland's run rate.

Ireland managed to post 284 on the board. Lizaad Williams from South Africa was the pick of the bowlers for them as he picked up four wickets to his name. Ottneil Baartman and Andile Phehlukwayo shared two wickets each.

In reply, South Africa's top order was dismantled with paceman Mark Adair leading the way for Irishmen. The top three was gone inside single digit and the Proteas were in big trouble.

Kyle Verreynne, however, held on one end and made 38 off 36 balls but Craig Young trapped him for LBW. Young then had Tristan Stubbs and South Africa again lost the plot with stuttering on 79-5.

Andile Phehlukwayo and Jason Smith then forged a little partnership, but the former one departed scoring 23 left South Africa in disarry. But Jason Smith had another plans, he steered the ship single handedly without any help from the lower order. He blasted a fantastic 91 off 93 deliveries before falling to Hume and South Africa lost all their hopes. And ultimately they lost the final ODI by 69 runs.
