It is known that Sri Lankan Cricket Board is planning to conduct a new T20 league named Lankan Premier League. Already the country hosted a T20 league called Sri Lankan Premier League. But the league was abandoned at some point due to problems in the cricket board.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee waved a green signal for conducting the league from August 28 to September 20. Earlier today (July 27) Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee met and the final decision on the new T20 league was taken.
It is planned by the cricket board to conduct 23 games in the first edition of the new T20 league of the country. The 23 games will be hosted in the International stadiums namely, R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, and Suriyawewa Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium.
Already 70 International players confirmed their availability for the league during the planned time period. Also, 10 coaches from various countries confirmed their availability. Along with them, all the leading Sri Lankan national players will take part in the tournament.
Five teams will take part in the league, named after the cities of Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla, and Jaffna. At the moment, processes for taking in the sponsors are going on. The bidding for the Event’s Title Holder is due to close on July 30th and following that schedule of the league will be released.
