The International Cricket Council (ICC) has brought some changes in the playing conditions in all formats in the new year. Significantly, the ICC has resolved a problem that has been giving advantages to players for a long time.

One of the rule changes relates to the umpire's review for stumping. The change will now only focus on side-on replays and not check cut behinds. Since a successful stumping appeal does not require the fielding team to use a review. Players often appeal for stumping, with the umpire confirming the appeal for stumping after seeing the catch-behind appeal.

In the previous home series against Australia last year, there were several instances where the Australian team appealed to wicketkeeper Alex Carey for stumping behind the stumps, leading to a review of caught-behind appeals without using the Decision Review System (DRS). But now the fielding side must use review for caught-behind appeals, as stumping appeals will only show replays from side-on cameras.

The new rule states, "The change confines a stumping review to only check for stumped, therefore preventing the fielding team a free review for other modes of dismissal (i.e, caught behind) without choosing a player review.”

Another rule change is clarification on concussion substitutions, “(It) provides clarity in the regulations to ensure that a replacement player will not be permitted to bowl if the replaced player was suspended from bowling at the time of their concussion.”

Auto No-Ball: "The third umpire will have broader scope to automatically check all forms of foot fault no ball in addition to the front foot.”

On Field Injury Assessment and Treatment: "Clarifies the time limit (maximum four minutes) allowed for an on-field assessment or treatment of an injury."
