The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled a record-breaking prize pool for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3 to 20. In a historic decision, the total prize money has been raised to an impressive $7,958,080—more than double the $2.45 million awarded in the previous edition in 2023.

The winners of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will receive a staggering $2.34 million, marking a 134% increase from the $1 million awarded to Australia when they claimed their sixth title last year in South Africa. This historic increase aligns the prize for the women’s champions with that of the men’s winners, setting a new standard for equality in global cricket. The ICC confirmed that "teams will now receive equal prize money for the equivalent finishing position at comparable events as well as the same amount for winning a match at those events."

The runners-up will also benefit from this boost, securing $1.17 million—a significant jump from the $500,000 South Africa received for reaching their maiden final in 2023. The semi-finalists will each pocket $675,000, more than triple the amount awarded in the last edition.

The prize pool doesn't stop there. Teams that secure a win during the group stages will earn $31,154 per victory, a 78% rise from the $17,500 paid out in 2023. Additionally, every participating team, regardless of where they finish, will receive a base prize of $112,500, ensuring a total of $1.125 million distributed among the 10 teams. Teams that exit the tournament during the group stage will also see a financial uplift, with those finishing fifth to eighth earning $270,000 each, while teams finishing ninth and 10th will take home $135,000.

This landmark move underscores the ICC’s commitment to promoting and growing women’s cricket, with the governing body stating, "This move is in line with the ICC's strategy to prioritize the women's game and accelerate its growth by 2032."

The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup will be played across two iconic venues, Dubai and Sharjah. Originally planned to take place in Bangladesh, the tournament was relocated to the UAE following recent political developments in the country.
