Chapman played two ODIs and 19 T20 Internationals for Hong Kong till 2016 and has not played for them since then. He has one ODI century and a T20I half-century to his name. He scored 124* on his ODI debut against UAE in 2015.
Chapman started playing domestic cricket for Auckland since 2015. He made himself unavailable for Hong Kong in 2018 and was not picked for World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. He has qualified for New Zealand through his father.
The Hong Kong-born player has been in good form in New Zealand's 20-over domestic tournament Super Smash and 50-over tournament Ford Trophy. He scored 307 runs at a strike rate of 171.50 including a hundred in Super Smash.
New Zealand Cricket selector Gavin Larsen said, "Mark has been very consistent over the past couple of seasons and has taken his game to another level in recent times. His ability to hit the ball in all areas makes him a real threat and we've seen in the domestic competition some of the power he possesses."
