Even after the Bangladesh chapter ended, Sri Lanka's spin legend Rangana Herath still misses Bangladesh. The reason behind his decision to not extend the contract was also disclosed by the former spin bowling coach of Bangladesh. Nevertheless, he withheld the explanation.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was thinking of keeping Herath even after the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, in the end, the two parties did not make any new agreement. 

Herath said, “There were some reasons for not extending the contract. Actually, I got an offer from them. But there were reasons why I didn’t continue. But I had a great time in Bangladesh. I must thank Bangladesh cricket for this.”

Highlighting his cordial relationship with Bangladeshi cricketers, Herath added, “I worked almost two and a half years with Bangladesh and I spent lot of times with spinners of Bangladesh. So of course, we had a very good time. Yes, I miss them.”

Currently not working with any international team, Herath has become the franchise cricket coach. In the LPL, he’s the coach of Dambulla Sixers and he highlighted the difference between being the coach of national team and franchise team.

"Long-term planning can be done with international teams. Franchise cricket is completely different. Everyone is looking forward to winning the match. But franchise cricket is also a good opportunity as a coach,” Herath further said.
