Young Indian batter Shubman Gill achieved a milestone. South African batsman Hashim Amla’s record of fastest 2000 ODI runs (by innings) has been broken by Gill. Back in 2011, Amla achieved the feat in 40 innings breaking the record of Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas. However, after 12 years, Gill took just 38 innings to surpass Proteas’ legend. He broke the record while playing against New Zealand on 22nd October 2023 (Sunday) in 28th match of ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.

Shubman Gill debuted in 2019. He has scored 10 half-centuries and hit 6 tons in his 37 One Day International innings. Currently, he is No.2 batter in ODI ranking closer to Pakistani skipper Babar Azam.

In the meantime, Gill also became fifth youngest Indian batsman to score 2000 ODI runs. He is 24 years and 44 days of age. Sachin Tendulkar is the youngest with this record as he was 20 years and 354 days old. Other three are Yuvraj Singh (22years, 51days), Virat Kohli (22years, 215days) and Suresh Raina (23years, 45days).
