Zimbabwe legend Hamilton Masakadza decided to call it a day after playing 18 years of international cricket. The tri-nation series involving the hosts Bangladesh and Afghanistan was his last for Zimbabwe. [caption id="attachment_129957" align="aligncenter" width="960"]

During Masakadza's last ever game against Bangladesh.[/caption] While Bangladesh and Afghanistan were preparing to go to the stadium from the hotel for the final of the tri-series, Zimbabwe were packing their bags to fly to Singapore. However, not every one of them. The captain Hamilton Masakadza, who announced retirement from international cricket was preparing to fly back home. Masakadza is not just a famous name in the streets of Zimbabwe, but also in the streets of Bangladesh. He has a wonderful relationship with the people of Bangladesh and he knows the ins and outs of the country as he spent a long time here while playing in the domestic cricket of Bangladesh. Before flying back home on Wednesday, Masakadza thanked the fans of Bangladesh once again during an interview for the continuous support and love. "It is really lovely to see all the love I have been getting, all the love that I have always got it from the people of Bangladesh. I also appreciate the love I have got after announcing my retirement. There were so many messages of inspirations and so many well-wishers. I really enjoyed how people treated me in Bangladesh and they supported me even when I'm in the opposition," Masakadza told journalist Saif Ahmed Chowdhury. "The Bangladeshi fans are very knowledgeable about cricket. They even enjoy when someone does well from the opposition. So I really enjoyed my time here and also enjoyed the interaction with the people of Bangladesh. Thank you so much again," he added. The 36-year old also revealed that Shakib Al Hasan came to him after he played his last ever game against Bangladesh and said the all-rounder was in disbelief that he is retiring.

"After I played my last ever game against Bangladesh, Shakib came to me and asked ‘Are you really retiring?’ I grew up watching you play and now you’re retiring. It made me realise time flies so fast and I feel really old now.”

The veteran batsman, who played 209 ODIs and 66 T20Is for Zimbabwe was not in a dilemma when asked to pick his favourite win in the limited-overs format.

"My favourite win was the ODI series win against Sri Lanka in their home in 2017. The series was levelled 2-2 and we won the 5th ODI to win it 3-2. It was a very hard-fought win."

While some old players are still playing in international cricket, Masakadza admitted that it was possible for him as well to play for 1-2 years more. But he wanted to make a way for the youngsters and want them to take over from here. [caption id="attachment_129964" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]

"It has been long time since I'm playing cricket. It's time to call it a day. Actually I'm still not old, I'm very young (laughs). But it's time for the youngsters to take over. There are many talented youngsters in the side like Chakabva and Mutumbami. I'm sure they will do well."

Masakadza was spotted wearing Liverpool's jersey during the interview and said he's 'All Red' since childhood when asked about his favorite football club. [caption id="attachment_129961" align="aligncenter" width="645"]

"I'm a Liverpool fan since childhood. My father was also a Liverpool fan and I followed his footsteps. But later my father turned into a Chelsea supporter (laughs)."

After talking a lot of stuff about on the field, we decided to talk about off the field and that's when the hard-hitting batsman stunned us. Masakadza knows the streets of Dhaka than many of the people living in Bangladesh and revealed that his favourite shopping place is 'New Market'.

"I know the streets of Dhaka very well. My favourite shopping place is New Market. I love shopping there because the price is very cheap and I get t-shirts according to my sizes, which is the large ones. I also know the price ranges very well. So I can charge the sellers if they try to cheat me by asking a higher price than usual (laughs). Nandos and Star Kebab are my favourite restaurants in Dhaka."

Masakadza has 3 diaries where he writes everything about his day to day experience including the things he experiences in Bangladesh and despite taking retirement, he promised that he will visit Bangladesh again very soon. As much as the people of Bangladesh love him, he loves them too.
