Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman Saba Karim reckons that the English conditions will pose a massive challenge for India's top batsman Rohit Sharma. The 33-year-old stalwart played only 1 Test in England wherein he managed to score 34 runs in 2 innings. Rohit did struggle to go about his business in the seamer-friendly conditions but that was a long back. Now, he has turned out to be a complete all-format batsman where he scored runs consistently. Now, everyone's attention is on the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. This will also be the first that the star batsman will be opening in a Test match in England. During a recent discussion on India News, former Indian player Saba Karim added that Rohit will have a tough task in the English conditions. "I agree England will be very challenging for Rohit Sharma because the ball keeps moving throughout the day there. The Test match is going to be with the Dukes ball. A lot will depend on the conditions. The ball starts moving more when the clouds are there and the wicket plays true when there is sun," said Karim. Needless to say, the former player had expressed a strong faith that Rohit will rise to the occasion and take the team forward. "But I have full belief because Rohit Sharma's role has changed a lot. He is going to the ground as a leader. He also knows that he has the responsibility to give a good start and play the long innings, which is when the Indian team will get into a good position in this Test match," added Karim. Talking about his stats as an opener, Rohit scored 1030 runs at a sensational batting average of 64.37 in 11 Tests as an opening batsman. Nonetheless, Rohit dominated the game in the home conditions and is still yet to prove himself worthy of a Test opener in overseas conditions. Karim also highlighted that Rohit Sharma will be confident of doing well as he can change his gameplay as per the conditions. "Rohit Sharma will back himself, whether it be the World Test Championship final or the series against England. This player knows that he has the right technique now, the proper shots that can be played on these wickets against those bowlers," said Karim. Last but not the least, the former player added that the opposition bowlers will also be aware of Rohit due to his stroke-making potential. "I also feel that he is a player who instils fear in the opposition bowlers because he is a boundary hitter. It is very difficult to stop him and the biggest thing is that he has great confidence in his abilities. He is never scared of playing his shots," concluded Karim.
