Ebadot Hossain, known for his stellar performance in Bangladesh's memorable win in Mount Maunganui, is set to make his long-awaited return to cricket after a 16-month injury break. Despite his absence, Bangladesh's pace unit has thrived, but many believe that with Ebadot in the mix, the unit would be even more formidable. Known as the "Sylhet Rocket," Ebadot will take the field for Sylhet Division in the next round of the National Cricket League (NCL), set to start Saturday in Cox's Bazar, facing Khulna Division.
For Ebadot, who has represented Bangladesh across all formats, Test cricket holds a special place. His triumphant comeback to the red-ball format, after making an impact on foreign soil in New Zealand, is eagerly awaited. Ebadot took to Facebook to share his gratitude, saying, "After 16 months, I am starting my cricket journey again. I would like to thank my family and friends who supported me through this journey, and a special thanks to all the BCB physios, trainers, and officials. Please keep me in your prayers."
Ebadot’s return adds significant strength to Sylhet’s bowling line-up. The team, already comprising several national pacers, including Abu Jayed Rahi, Khaled Ahmed, and Rejaur Rahman Raja, will now benefit from Ebadot’s experience. Tanjim Hasan Shakib, another pace prospect, is also part of the squad but currently sidelined with an injury. Spin duties for Sylhet are handled by Nasum Ahmed, though he will miss this match due to national duty in the Afghanistan series, along with Sylhet’s regular captain, Zakir Hasan.
Sylhet sits at the top of the NCL points table, having won two out of three matches and drawing one, boasting 18 points. However, Khulna is not far behind with one win and two draws, making them formidable opponents. With Ebadot’s return, this clash promises an exciting contest for fans of Bangladesh’s domestic cricket.
