Ebadot Hossain eyes India series for international comeback after long injury layoff

Ebadot has been sidelined since the 2023 Asia Cup and has missed significant tournaments, including the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup. He also couldn't participate in the most recent season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Recovery from surgery often takes time, and as a fast bowler, Ebadot has required even more time to get back to full fitness.

Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain has been out of action for over a year, missing two major World Cups during his absence. However, as he continues his rehabilitation process, Ebadot is setting his sights on a return to international cricket during the upcoming tour of India.

However, Ebadot is gradually overcoming this challenging period and has resumed training. He started bowling again about one and a half months ago and is aiming to make his international comeback in the upcoming series against India in September. The Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to tour India for a series that includes two Test matches and three T20Is.

Speaking to the media in Mirpur, Ebadot said, "My goal is to play against India. Since there are two Test matches in India, it all depends on how positive my return can be through the Test matches. As the India series is approaching, I’m trying to regain my Test match fitness. I believe there’s a chance to play a four-day practice match among ourselves before the India series. If I get the opportunity to play in that match, I’ll be able to judge my fitness for Test cricket. Inshallah, let's see how it goes."

Updating on his training progress, Ebadot mentioned, "Today I did some running, worked on my fitness, did some batting, and ended with bowling. I've been bowling for about a month and a half now. Earlier, my bowling intensity was around 70-80%, and it remains the same. The trainer has given me a program on how to bowl and maintain fitness in the final phase of recovery. My bowling intensity is still around 80%. I hope to bowl at full intensity within 2-3 weeks."

When asked if the long break has affected his bowling skills, Ebadot responded, "It's natural to lose some rhythm after being out of action for a year. I’m trying to find my rhythm again, and I feel good about it. I’m also working on my batting and fielding. Alhamdulillah, it feels great."

Ebadot is determined to return stronger than before, stating, "My main objective now is to return at a better level than where I left off. My standards should not drop; that’s my primary focus. I want to go even higher from there."

Regarding the effectiveness of returning through Test cricket, Ebadot added, "The management is considering which format would be best for my return. If I can play a four-day match before the India series, I’ll be able to judge my fitness for Test cricket."
