Bangladesh’s interim Chief Adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, hosted a special reception for the Bangladesh cricket team today, September 12, after their triumphant 2-0 Test series win against Pakistan on Pakistani soil. The reception took place at the Chief Adviser’s office in Tejgaon, where the players, coaches, and board officials were present to celebrate the team’s historic victory.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto had previously spoken to Chief Adviser Yunus from the Rawalpindi ground immediately after the series win. During the phone call, Dr. Yunus congratulated the team on their outstanding performance and expressed his desire to meet them in person once they returned to the country.

Despite a tight schedule and preparations for their upcoming tour of India later this month, the cricketers found time to meet with the Chief Adviser. Shakib Al Hasan, currently engaged in county cricket in England, was unable to attend. However, the remaining members of the squad, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, were joined by BCB President Faruque Ahmed, CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujon, Director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, and Media Manager Rabeed Imam, forming a 19-member delegation. The team also brought along the trophy they earned in Pakistan.

During the event, Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus warmly greeted and shook hands with the cricketers. He expressed his immense pride in the team’s achievement, calling the Test series win against Pakistan "historic." Dr. Yunus highlighted how sports can unify a nation, and shared anecdotes from his role as an advisor and goodwill ambassador at the Paris Olympics. He also informed the players that he had been invited to take on a similar role for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Italy.

Captain Shanto, speaking on behalf of the team, expressed their gratitude for the reception, noting, “Every player is happy to be here. This will truly inspire us.” He credited the team's success in Pakistan to the hard work of both the players and the coaching staff.

Present at the reception were Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, along with other key members of the interim government and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The team’s meeting with the Chief Adviser reflects the national pride and recognition of Bangladesh's historic Test series win in Pakistan.

The Bangladesh team is now gearing up for their India tour, scheduled to begin later this September, as they look to build on their momentum from the Pakistan series.
