Ben Stokes is set to miss the entire English home summer, aiming for return in Pakistan Test tour.
Stokes, 33, was left on crutches following the injury while batting for Northern Superchargers against Manchester Originals at Old Trafford on Sunday. Since that day, he was in injury cloud.
He is aiming to be fit in time for England's three-Test tour of Pakistan, which starts on October 7.
Opener Zak Crawley has already been ruled out of the series because of a broken finger, while uncapped fast bowler Dillon Pennington will miss the Sri Lanka Tests after also sustaining a hamstring injury playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. Dan Lawrence is set to partner Ben Duckett in the opening slot.
For England, they've thrashed the West Indies few days back by 3-0 and will be in aplomb against the Lankans.
England are on 6th position in the World Test Championship rankings, while Sri Lanka are firmly standing on fourth.
