After months of not knowing what would happen, Shakib Al Hasan has finally been given permission to bowl again in competitive cricket.  The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that the veteran all-rounder passed his bowling action test. This means that he is no longer suspended.

Shakib, who is 37 years old, was tested at Loughborough University in England on March 9. The results showed that he had changed his bowling action.  So long as he has this clearance, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will let him play in all competitive county cricket and The Hundred.

BCB also said that the ECB would soon put out a public statement about the situation.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received information on the outcome of the independent re-assessment of Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling action carried out at Loughborough University, UK on 9 March 2025. The BCB understands that according to the latest assessment report, Shakib has successfully remedied his action and his suspension from bowling in England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Competitive County Cricket and the Hundred will be lifted with immediate effect. The ECB will issue a detailed media release regarding the lifting of the suspension soon,” BCB said in a statement.

There was a lot of talk about Shakib's bowling action for Surrey in county cricket last September.  Shakib was in great shape at the time. He later went to India for a Test series without knowing that his bowling action was being watched.

After the series, Shakib was banned from bowling by the ECB because he failed the first test at Loughborough's biomechanics lab.  He wasn't able to bowl in any ECB-sanctioned games after losing the second test in Chennai as well.

Shakib was still eager to make a comeback, though.  He did a lot of work to fix things before taking his third and final test in the UK. This time, he passed, showing that what he did was now legal.

Shakib had said before the Champions Trophy that he wanted to stop playing ODIs, but he wasn't picked for Bangladesh's team anyway.  Because he was no longer seen as a specialist batter, the selectors didn't put him on the team.

Shakib can play in franchise T20 leagues and other domestic tournaments around the world again now that he is okay to bowl.  This could give him a chance to make a strong comeback in cricket games.
