Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team secured a historic ODI series win against Ireland with back-to-back victories in the three-match series. With one match remaining, the Tigresses have a chance to achieve their first-ever ODI series whitewash.

The series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship, making the wins even more significant as Bangladesh has added 4 crucial points to their tally. Currently sitting at 17 points, Nigar Sultana Joty’s team ranks 8th on the table. A victory in the final match on December 2 would not only complete the whitewash but also earn them 2 additional points.

Reflecting on the series win, skipper Nigar Sultana Joty emphasized the importance of consistency and the team’s collective effort. She stated during the post-match press conference:

“Securing these 2 points and winning the series is very important for the team. It builds momentum. For us, the points matter the most, and we are thrilled to add 2 more. Now, we’re focused on continuing this performance in the final match.”

Nigar was named Player of the Match but expressed surprise: “I was completely surprised to win this award. I thought Pinky (Farzana Haque) deserved it. But what matters most is contributing to the team’s victory. It would’ve been great to finish the game myself, though.”

The skipper also praised the batting unit for stepping up: “Today’s pitch was much better compared to the morning, though Ireland played better than the last match. If we bowled a bit tighter, we could’ve restricted them by 20-30 runs. Pinky was consistent, and Supta (Sharmin Akhter) played a crucial role. When the batters perform well, it makes a big difference to the team’s impact.”

Nigar is optimistic about securing the team’s first-ever whitewash in the final match, adding: “We’ve never whitewashed any team before. Achieving it would be a milestone for us. But most importantly, we need to play as a unit, compete fiercely, and execute our roles well. If we do that, the day will belong to us.”

She also stressed consistency and carrying forward the momentum: “I reminded the team today that consistency is key. It’s not about individual scores in one match, but maintaining the same level of performance throughout. This is a challenge we need to embrace in the next match as well.”

Bangladesh’s recent performances have also set new records, including their highest-ever innings total in the first ODI and their highest successful chase in the second. Reflecting on these milestones, Nigar said:

“It feels great that everything we’re doing is becoming a record (laughs). Maybe it’s because we couldn’t do it before. This team has worked hard for so long. Winning matches is uplifting because losing often brings negativity. While there’s still room for improvement, the positives outweigh the negatives this time.”

The third and final ODI of the series will take place on December 2, with Bangladesh Women focused on achieving a clean sweep and securing two additional ICC Women’s Championship points.
