Aussie great Ricky Ponting appointed as the head coach of Punjab Kings
Ponting was the head coach of Delhi Capitals till the last season. He had a seven-year stint with the franchise, commencing back in 2018, before stepping down earlier this year as the Capitals are searching for an Indian coach, who will coach the team in pre IPL training, what Ponting was unable to do due to tight scheduling.

Australian great Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the head coach of Punjab Kings for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Ponting has signed a multi-year contract with Punjab Kings, a franchise which last played IPL playoffs back in 2014, where they were the runners-up against Kolkata Knight Riders. Ponting will be the sixth head coach of Punjab Kings in 7 seasons.
Ponting was the head coach of Delhi Capitals till the last season. He had a seven-year stint with the franchise, commencing back in 2018, before stepping down earlier this year as the Capitals are searching for an Indian coach, who will coach the team in pre IPL training, what Ponting was unable to do due to tight scheduling.
During his tenure, the Capitals made the Playoffs for three times on the trot in 2019, 2020, and 2021, with their highlight result being a runner-up in 2020, marking the team’s first-ever appearance in an IPL final.
Although, in the past three seasons, Delhi Capitals failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished on 5th, 9th and 6th respectively.
Before joining the Delhi Capitals in the 2018 season, Ponting served as Mumbai Indians head coach in this league and drove them to win in the 2015 edition of the IPL under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
