The Galle Marvels began their Lanka T10 campaign with a commanding seven-wicket victory over the Kandy Bolts. Despite Dinesh Chandimal’s blistering fifty, Kandy's total of 100 runs was comfortably chased down by Galle, thanks to an explosive partnership between Andre Fletcher and Shakib Al Hasan.
Winning the toss and opting to bowl in Pallekele, Galle Marvels struck early as Kandy lost Pathum Nissanka and George Munsey cheaply. However, Dinesh Chandimal paired up with Chandrapaul Hemraj to revive the innings. Chandimal played aggressively, reaching his fifty in just 22 balls.
Shakib Al Hasan bowled a tight spell in the fifth over, conceding only seven runs, slowing the run flow momentarily. Chandimal, however, powered on before falling for 66 off 25 balls, an innings laced with seven fours and five sixes. Apart from Thisara Perera, who chipped in with a cameo, no other Kandy batter managed to cross double digits, leaving them stranded at 100/5 after 10 overs.
Chasing a target of 101, Galle Marvels started briskly with a 36-run opening partnership. Alex Hales contributed a quick 23 off 9 balls, and Sadeera Samarawickrama added 13 runs off six deliveries before being dismissed. Despite a minor hiccup with Bhanuka Rajapaksa's runout, Fletcher and Shakib ensured there were no further setbacks.
The duo combined for an unbeaten 63-run stand in just 27 balls. Shakib showcased his all-round brilliance by hammering Thisara Perera for a four and two consecutive sixes in the fifth over. Fletcher remained unbeaten on 41 off 21 balls, smashing three fours and four sixes, while Shakib contributed a quickfire 20 off eight balls, including one four and two sixes.
Galle chased down the target with ease, wrapping up the game with seven wickets and nine balls to spare.
