England legendary fast bowler James Anderson will extend his role as a fast-bowling consultant for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan and New Zealand this winter.

Anderson, who retired from international cricket earlier this year after the first Test against West Indies, has been actively involved in mentoring England’s bowling unit since stepping away from the game.

The 42-year-old’s expertise and experience have been invaluable to the team, especially as they prepare for crucial series abroad. Anderson initially took on the consultancy role during England’s home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka, with the agreement now extended through the Pakistan and New Zealand tours.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Anderson said: "At the minute, I'm due to go to Pakistan and New Zealand in the winter. Then nothing concrete after that. I'm still learning as we go, and it's partly me trying to figure out if this is where I want to go with the next stage of my career."

England’s managing director, Rob Key, praised Anderson’s contribution to the team, especially his guidance of young talents like Josh Hull, the 6ft 7in left-arm pacer from Leicestershire, who recently made his Test debut against Sri Lanka. Key highlighted the importance of retaining Anderson’s knowledge and experience within the team as they transition into a new era of fast bowling.

"There was a great moment at Lord's where you saw Josh Hull bowling in the middle and Jimmy standing at the top of his mark. You think 'how good this is?'. All of that knowledge, you don't want to lose," Key said.

England’s bowling unit has evolved since Anderson’s departure, with young pacers like Gus Atkinson, Matthew Potts, and Olly Stone stepping up in his absence. The upcoming tours will provide further opportunities for these bowlers to develop under Anderson's mentorship.
