New Zealand Women's beat South Africa Women's by 32 runs to win their maiden Women's T20 World Cup on Sunday (October 20). Amelia Kerr's brilliant 43 off 38 balls and Brooke Halliday's 38 off 28 deliveries helped the Kiwis get a competitive 158 on the board. In reply, Amelia Kerr shone with the ball to pick up three wickets and restrict South Africa to 126 runs.


Being inserted to bat first, the Kiwis lost Georgia Plimmer earlier on. Other opener Suzie Bates made a gritty 32 off 31 balls before falling to Nonkululeko Mlaba. Captain Sophie Devine too departed earlier on.

Amelia Kerr scored a fine 43 off 38 balls and also Brooke Halliday played a quick-fire knock of 38 off 28 balls to help the Kiwis get 158 on the board.

Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up two wickets, while other chipped in away with one wicket each.

In reply, South Africa had a wonderful start with Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits stitching up with 51 run stand. But Fran Jones removed the latter one and broke the opening stand. South Africa then had a horrible collapse, losing wickets at regular intervals.

But skipper Laura was standing tall for side and steering ship for the Protea Women's. Laura made a fine 33 off 27 balls but Amelia Kerr came and removed her to uplift New Zealand to the new level.

South Africa, however, managed to get only 126 runs inside the 20 overs and lost the final by 32 runs and the Blackcaps Women's have been crowned their maiden Women's T20 World Cup title.
