So, if they win their last two matches against South Africa and Bangladesh, they have to depend on others for qualification in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, has been in poor form also. One of the best batsmen in recent times, Babar, has scored just 8 runs in three matches in the ongoing World Cup. Many people are criticizing Babar all around. But the exception is former South Africa captain AB de Villiers. He’s supporting Babar in these difficult times.
Babar got the chance to meet de Villiers when he was in the youth team. De Villiers saw the immense potential in Babar when he first saw the Pakistani batter. De Villiers said, "Babar Azam is an amazing player. I watched him play for the first time, saying this boy can play. He is a fantastic addition to Pakistan's success, and it's great to see young generations taking ownership."
Babar's score in the ongoing World Cup is 0, 4, and 4 runs against India, Zimbabwe, and Netherlands, respectively. The team lost against arch-rivals India and relatively easy opponents Zimbabwe.
But for de Villiers, two openers of Pakistan Babar and Mohammad Rizwan are symbols of Pakistan's batting consistency. "The batting side of Pakistan has always been a problem; it was never solid enough, it always goes up and down, and I feel they are in a place of consistency because of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan,” he added.
