Team India faced a Test series defeat on home soil for the first time in 12 years as New Zealand clinched an impressive 2-0 win. The Kiwis sealed the series with an 8-wicket win in Bengaluru, followed by a commanding 113-run triumph in Pune, leaving Indian fans and players stunned.
Virat KohliAmid the disappointment, former Indian skipper Virat Kohli found himself on the receiving end due to his lackluster performances. Questions were raised about his form, especially given his recent statistics in the longest format.
Meanwhile, cricket analyst Aakash Chopra openly questioned whether Kohli's string of inconsistent scores should be a cause for concern.
"Is Virat Kohli's Test form a concern? He has scored only two centuries in the last five years. It's a concern if you see his numbers for the last five years, and that was before the start of this Test match,” the former Indian cricketer remarked on his YouTube channel.
While making an assessment on Kohli's Kohli's struggles over recent years, Chopra said, "He played only six innings in 2020 and averaged just 19. In 2021, he played 19 innings with an average of 28, without scoring a century. It wasn’t much better in 2022 either, where he averaged 26 across 11 innings."
For the record, Virat Kohli did score two centuries last year but failed to find consistency this year. Meanwhile, Chopra was quick to point out that one of Kohli's centuries came on a flat pitch in Ahmedabad during a drawn game.
It remains to be seen how Kohli will go about in the upcoming Test against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma and Co. will look to evade a whitewash by playing a proper brand of cricket. The third and final Test will kick off on November 1 (Friday).
